WHAT MAKES THEM UNIQUE

What began in 2008 as a practical alternative to European bees has grown into a family-run business grounded in curiosity, connection, stewardship, integrity and purpose. For Steve, native bees are a doorway into wonder — especially for children encountering them for the first time. Through workshops, education programs, subscriptions and seasonal produce, The Australian Native Bee Company helps people experience these tiny pollinators up close and understand the life they support. From preschools and schools to homes, gardens and communities, this work is about nurturing care for bees, land, food and the future.

Why is your connection to the Northern Rivers important?

“The Northern Rivers is such a rich and biodiverse region, and native bees play an important role in keeping those ecosystems healthy. For us, it’s about helping people understand how much these tiny pollinators contribute to local landscapes, food systems and the future of this place.”
